Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik on Sunday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and rated his government and its foreign and anti-corruption policies with an 8 out of 10.
Mr Patnaik, the 14th Chief Minister of Odisha and the President of Biju Janata Dal, was attending an interactive session at the Odisha Literary Festival organised by the New Indian Express Group in Bhubaneswar.
“I rate the Modi government 8 out of 10 because of what he has done for foreign policy and also in various other matters… also there has been less corruption in this (BJP) government”, said the CM.

Even though Mr Patnaik”s party ended a poll alliance with BJP in 2009, it remained consistent in its support to the central government led by BJP. The party also has not yet joined the opposition bloc INDIA.
“We have cordial relationships with the centre, naturally we want the development of our state. And it”s important to have the centre partnership in that development”, Chief Minister said on Sunday.
“Whatever he has done for foreign policy and also in other matters too, there has been less corruption in this government. He helped in rooting out corruption and trying his very best to serve the people of our country”, added Mr Patnaik.
Commenting on the recently passed historic Women Reservation Bill, Mr Patnaik said that, “I think it is a very important step, my party has always been there for the development of women, my father began it by reserving 33 percent of the seats in the local elections, we have increased that to 50 percent and recently in last elections we reserved 33 percent of our seats for women in parliamentary elections”.
“Also we have a great programme called Mission Shakti in which 7 million of our women are involved for the empowerment of Women, economically and in other ways”, he added.
The CM also expressed a welcoming attitude towards the central government”s One Nation One Election scheme; “We always welcomed it, we are prepared for the elections for both bodies at any time”.
According to him Odisha is getting transformed by his government; “Our education, our health care, our agriculture, everything is witnessing a paradigm shift on the foundation of a transformative governance. Our women feel empowered, delivering strong leadership in every part of our society. Our people are more confident of their future now than they were ever before”.
Naveen Patnaik, politician and writer, is currently serving as the 14th Chief Minister of Odisha representing the Hinjili Assembly constituency since 2000. He is also the first president of the Biju Janata Dal since 1997, the longest-serving chief minister of Odisha, and one of the longest-serving chief ministers of any Indian state, holding the post for over two decades.
