The first visuals of the 41 workers trapped inside an under-construction tunnel in Uttarakhand”s Uttarkashi for the past 10 days surfaced today, November 21. Rescuers released the video this morning, and it was filmed using an endoscopic camera sent in through the alternative 6-inch food pipeline. In the video, the workers are seen receiving food items sent to them by the rescuers through the pipeline.

The Indian Express, quoting Anshu Manish Khalkho, the Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), reported that the cameras were inserted through the pipeline to evaluate the condition of the workers. The video will be a big relief to the families of the 41 workers. Earlier on November 20, Professor Arnold Dix, an expert in tunnel safety and disaster investigations, took charge of the Uttarkashi tunnel rescue operation. Government agencies are also working round the clock to rescue the trapped workers.
The Prime Minister”s Office is constantly monitoring the situation in Uttarkashi. On November 20, PM Narendra Modi called Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on the phone to discuss the ongoing rescue operations. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami briefed PM Modi about the rescue operations and also added that all agencies are working in full coordination. The tunnel that was meant to connect Silkyara to Dandalgaon in Uttarakhand‘s Uttarkashi collapsed partially on November 12. Oxygen and food are being supplied to 41 workers who are trapped inside the Uttarkashi tunnel.
