Rescue workers has been working hard to get to the 40 labourers trapped in a tunnel which was under construction in Uttarkashi of Uttarakhand. The workers were able to drill up to 24 meters of the rubble after working overnight with a new machine from Delhi, which is believed to be of high capacity.
After being trapped for 120 hours inside the collapsed tunnel, the labourers said to be facing “serious health and mental concerns”. The rescue workers were able to fit four pipes to deliver foods, medical supplies and oxygen, said report.
According to National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), the workers are required to drill up to 60 meters to make it possible for 800 mm and 900mm diameter pipes to be inserted in-order to create an escape passage, though which the labourers can crawl through. A six-inch pipe is being used to deliver essential medicines, glucose, multi-vitamins and dry fruits.
Having spent over six days inside the collapsed tunnel, 40 workers were said to be facing with health and mental fatigue. Some of the workers complains about have complained about having minor headaches and nausea.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami said all tunnel under constructions in the state will be reviewed, while talking to media.

The tragical incident occurred on Sunday early morning around 4 am, as the tunnel meant to connect Silkyara to Dandalgaon in Uttarakhand‘s Uttarkashi collapsed partially. The rescue and relief operations are underway and the workers trapped inside were reportedly contacted through walkie-talkies. The workers are all unharmed and were given food and oxygen through pipe, said the officials.
