Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav visited Delhi Water Minister Atishi at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital (LNJP) and said that the central government has discriminated against the Delhi government and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal the most.

Atishi’s hunger strike came to an end after she was admitted to a hospital on June 25 after her blood sugar levels dropped to 36 during her indefinite hunger strike over the water crisis in the national capital.

Expressing his solidarity with Atishi, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh described the AAP leader as “brave” and as someone who knows “how to fight for the people.” Yadav added that Atishi had been constantly fighting to solve the problems in Delhi.

After visiting Atishi, the SP chief alleged that since the BJP formed the government at the centre, “the problems of chief ministers have increased.”

“Arvind Kejriwal formed the government and worked to improve health, education, and other facilities, but obstacles were created. Now, when he started getting relief from various quarters, he has been framed to prevent him from coming out of prison,” Yadav said.

The SP chief also claimed that the CBI had been framing individuals who pose a threat to the BJP. “Misuse of the CBI and other institutions led to voting against the BJP. They just scraped through from being wiped out,” claimed Yadav while talking to the media after his visit.

Atishi has been on an indefinite hunger strike against the Haryana government since June 21, amid a prolonged heatwave. The Delhi government accused the BJP-ruled Haryana government of deliberately withholding the national capital’s share of water (613 MGD) by releasing 100 MGD less for over two weeks. Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini accused the AAP government of corruption and mismanagement and said that they had already given an adequate amount of water to Delhi.

The people of Delhi continue to depend on water tankers to meet their basic daily water requirements.
