New Delhi: Weeks after the suicide of a Bengaluru software employee over alleged harassment by wife that sent shockwaves across the country, a Delhi cafe owner, in the legal dispute with his wife, was found hanging at his residence in Model Town’s Kalyan Vihar area in the national capital on Tuesday. The man, Puneet Khurana, was upset with his wife due to a dispute over the duo’s business.
Police suspect the case to be a death by suicide, drawing similarity with the Bengaluru techie’s case, which caused uproar across the country against the wife and her family while igniting serious discussions about the men oppressed by the existing legal framework.

Puneet Khurana is the co-founder of Woodbox Cafe in Delhi, with whom his wife, Manika Jagdish Pahwa is also a partner. The two had gotten married in 2016. Notably, the duo was heard fighting over the business property in a video purportedly accessed by media house NDTV. “We are getting a divorce, but I am still a business partner… You need to clear my dues,” the news portal quoted Khurana’s wife as heard in the call.
Following the death, the police have recovered Khurana’s phone and called his wife for interrogation. On December 9, Atul Subhash died by suicide, leaving behind a 24-page suicide note, accusing his wife and her relatives of harassment. The wife’s relatives had allegedly filed a few cases against the husband.

He also alleged that the whole legal system will encourage the harassment and help the accused in his suicide note, triggering debates about the silent sufferings of men. Subhash’s wife, Nikita Singhania, and her mother and brother were arrested a few days later.
Earlier this month, another similar allegation emerged as a man alleged that his wife and family wrongly accused him and his family over various acts. The man complained that his wife blackmailed him day and night, adding that he had little hope from the police.
