Highlighting the issue, Asaduddin Owaisi cast doubt at the ASI over Rs 551 crore fund allocated for the conservation of ancient monuments in the Union budget 2024.
Addressing the issue on his X platform, Owaisi wrote, “This is another glaring example of ASIGoI neglect and its disinterest in maintaining historical monuments, ASI was allocated 551 Crores for the conservation of ancient monuments in 2023-24 Union Budget, why have they not utilised these funds to protect monuments.”

Asaduddin Owaisi had earlier pointed out the water leakage from the main doom of the Taj Mahal and slammed the ASI for their inability to protect the iconic heritage monument known across the world. Stating the fact that ASI earns hundreds of crore from the Taj Mahal, he took a dig at the monument’s poor maintenance saying “This is like failing a 10th class exam and applying for a PhD.”
Sharing a report explaining the deterioration of the golden murals of the Taj Mahal, Owaisi asked “Why have they not utilised these funds to protect Monuments.”

Moreover, the report also mentioned the reason as “conservation negligence” stating that the lack of timely conservation has worsened the situation, and now the site could only be protected from further deterioration with measures from the government. The moisture damage over time has affected both the murals and the tomb’s structure.
Reacting to the deterioration, an ASI official has told TOI that the survey of the main doom was conducted and the repair work of the crack will be undertaken to prevent future water leakage.
