In Another News! A Bus Stand Worth Rs. 10L Stolen In Bengaluru

A new bus stand and its fortified steel infrastructure was stolen at Cunningham Road in Bengaluru. It was within a week of establishment, the bus shelter worth Rs. 10 lakh went missing. The bus stop was managed by the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).

N Ravi Reddy, an associate vice-president of the company who is involved with the construction of the bus shelters of BMTC, registered a complaint at the High Grounds Police station on September 30, a month after the report of theft. The Police have registered a case under IPC 379, i.e., punishment for theft.

As part of the investigation, Police is apparently going through the CCTV footage from the buildings in the area. “Most commercial establishments have CCTV footage that can store recordings for one month and it gets automatically deleted afterwards. Once we get the footage, we can trace the miscreants and crack the case,” a Police officer told TOI.

The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) officers alleges that Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is responsible for removing the bus shelter.

Responding to the theft incident, Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that BMTC is no longer constructing any bus stops, and now BBMP can carryover the responsibility. “Now, BBMP will construct, and they will take advantage of the attachment (bus stop shelter),” he told ANI.

The stolen bus stop was sheltering the passengers heading to Hennur, Banasawadi, Lingarajapuram, Gangenahalli, Bhoopasandra, Pulikeshinagar, Hebbal, and Yelahanka.

Missing bus stops are not new in Bengaluru. In 2015, Doopanahalli bus stop near Horizon School vanished overnight. And in 2014, A 20-year-old bus stop at Rajarajeshwarinagar’s BEML Layout III Stage was also disappeared.

In March this year, bus stand at Bangalore’s HRBR Layout went missing overnight, and reportedly it was donated by the Lions Club in 1990. The 30-year-old establishment was removed, citing business reasons.
