BJP Reacts To Kejriwal's Voters' Deletion Allegation; Claims 'Rohingyas, Bangladeshis Caught'

New Delhi: As Delhi is all set to face assembly election in a few months, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday accused the BJP of conspiracy to delete voters’ names from the electoral rolls.

The BJP, while responding to Kejriwal’s allegations, said they will not allow fake votes in the national capital, calling the AAP leader’s allegations “baseless.”

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva accused AAP of shielding fraudulent voters, claiming that Rohingyas and Bangladeshis are being caught, and “Kejriwal is panicking because this vote bank.

Stating that Kejriwal is scared, the BJP leader said everyone in the country has the right to express their views, but when people like Kejriwal question the entire constitutional process, then constitutional institutions “should seriously consider such matters to protect democracy.”

The former Delhi chief minister had pointed out that the BJP leaders have applied to the Election Commission to delete at least thousands of voter names from across several constituencies and named some of them, such as Shahdara, Janakpuri, and Laxmi Nagar. In Shahdara alone, at least 11,018 voter names were removed from the electoral rolls, as per Kejriwal’s claim.

The AAP leader said when they randomly checked 500 of the deleted names, they found that 75 percent of these people were still living at the listed addresses, underlining that the removal of names was nothing but an attempt to manipulate the electoral process. He also attributed the narrow victory with a margin of around 5000 votes that the AAP made during the 2020 assembly elections from Shahdara, alleging voters’ names deletion.

Kejriwal noted that the removal of such a huge number of voters’ from the list would have the potential to considerably sway the election result in the national capital, which would go to the polls in 2025. He had also brought several people whose names were deleted from the voters’ list to back his conspiracy claim at the press conference. “These voters are alive and continue to live at the same addresses listed on the voter rolls. For instance, Upendra Kumar resides at A-334, Uma Devi at B-8 Ambedkar Nagar, and Sunil Kumar at B-326,” the former chief minister said.

The AAP leader further accused the poll body of secretly processing deletion requests without transparency while demanding the removal of names to be published on its website. He also asked for a halt to the ongoing deletion of names.

Notably, Congress too had alleged their voters’ being deleted from the electoral rolls ahead of the recently held Maharashtra assembly elections, where the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti coalition won with a massive mandate. The opposition MVA has been alleging malpractice by the electoral mechanism since the result was out.
