CPI Flags MCC Violation: Sandosh Kumar Writes To EC Over PM Modi’s National Address
A fresh political controversy has emerged after Sandosh Kumar P, CPI MP in the Rajya Sabha, wrote to the Election Commission alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during his recent address to the nation.
In a letter dated April 19, addressed to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the CPI leader claimed that the Prime Minister’s speech was “political in nature” and included “partisan assertions” at a time when elections are underway in multiple states.

According to Sandosh Kumar, the address went beyond a routine government communication and attempted to influence public opinion on a matter that is currently under active political debate.
He argued that such messaging during the enforcement of the MCC raises serious concerns about fairness in the electoral process.

A key point of contention in the complaint is the broadcast of the Prime Minister’s speech on state-run platforms such as Doordarshan and Sansad TV. Kumar alleged that airing the address on publicly funded broadcasters amounts to misuse of government resources, which is strictly regulated during election periods.
The CPI has urged the Election Commission of India to take immediate action, including initiating an inquiry into the matter. The letter also called for accountability, warning that inaction could raise questions about the Commission’s neutrality and impact public trust in the electoral system.
