Fengal cyclone which is very powerful is bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds to southern India, particularly in the states of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh. The cyclone is expected to make landfall on November 30 Saturday and authorities have issued a red alert for several districts in these states.
The district administration in Puducherry has urged residents to stay indoors and all schools and colleges in the district are closed for the day.

Cyclone Fengal has already brought heavy rainfall to several parts of Tamil Nadu, causing waterlogging in low-lying areas.
The state government has deployed disaster response teams including those from the National and State Disaster Response Forces in vulnerable districts such as Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore and Chennai.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in coastal and low-lying areas during the cyclone’s landfall, along with wind speeds of 70-90 kmph.

A red alert has been issued for parts of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka, and residents in these areas have been advised to remain vigilant and follow safety advisories.

In addition to the heavy rainfall and strong winds, the cyclone is also expected to cause rough sea conditions and fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea until November 30th.
The state-run Aavin milk supply and power supply have not been affected so far and the Chennai Metro Rail services are operational without any glitches.
