The Delhi High Court on Tuesday set aside the order by Patiala House court to evict Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha from government-allotted bungalow in the national capital.

The trial court’s recent order directed Rajya Sabha Secretariat to evict Mr Chadha from his official residence which then prompted Mr Chadha to approach High Court.  On Tuesday, Justice Anup J Bhambhani granted the MP an interim stay which prevents the Rajya Sabha Secretariat from evicting Mr Chadha from his current accommodation.

In the video statement released on X, and also in the official statement posted, Mr Chadha said: “The cancellation of this allotment was a clear case of political vendetta, aimed at silencing a young, vocal parliamentarian. The decision to revoke my official accommodation was arbitrary, unreasonable, and unjust, representing a new low in political vendetta.”

He then said this is the first time in history Rajya Sabha a parliamentarian had to encounter political harassment for holding the government accountable. “Not only was this cancellation driven by malicious intent, but it also contained flaring irregularities that clearly violated established rules and regulations,” he said.

Further, Mr Chadha said that opposition voices representing the concerns of citizens are deliberately targeted. Till now he has given two speeches in the Parliament criticising BJP-led government wherein after the first speech his official accommodation was cancelled and after the second his membership as a parliamentarian was suspended, Mr Chadha said.

AAP leader, then added that he is not afraid and he is ready to make sacrifices for sustaining democratic principles and holding government accountable.

“All I want to say is that they can remove me from my official accommodation, they can remove me from parliament, but they can”t remove me from the hearts of millions of Indians, where I hope I really reside,” Mr Chadha concluded.
