General N S Raja Subramani Takes Charge As India's New Chief Of Defence Staff
New Delhi: The Army veteran with over 40 years of service, including as Vice Chief of the Army Staff, assumed the role as India’s new chief of defence staff on Sunday, May 31. General Anil Chauhan’s tenure ended on Saturday, paving the way for the new chief of defence to take charge.
Raja Subramani has received a tri-services Guard of Honour in New Delhi. As India is actively pursuing to modernise its military, Subramani aims to drive reforms for better military synergy, indigenous weapons, and soldier welfare.
The country’s senior-most military commander’s key focus will be the transformation of the armed forces, organisational reforms, other than military modernisation.
After assuming charge, Raja Subramani, after expressing gratitude to the nation for the trust, said the India Army, Navy, Air Force, Ministry of Defence, strategic institutions and all stakeholders stand united as part of the whole of nation approach to strengthen India’s security.

“We are committed to implementing the vision of our Prime Minister, ‘JAI’- Jointness, Atma Nirbharta and Innovation. Transformation of the armed forces and organisational reforms to enhance jointness, synergy and integration will be the primary focus. Atma Nirbharta is a central pillar of our national security,” the new chief of defence staff said, adding that the army will accelerate the development, induction and integration of indigenous weapons in our armed forces, news agency ANI shared the video of Raja Subramani as saying.
