India Invokes Essential Commodities Act Amid LPG Crisis: All About The Act
New Delhi: The government of India has invoked the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, allowing it to divert natural gas to certain priority sectors amid the supply chain disruption due to the rising conflict in West Asia.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Monday, March 9, issued the gazette notification noting the priority sectors, which includes domestic piped natural gas (PNG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for vehicular fuel, and Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) production alongside fertilizer manufacturing, tea industries, manufacturing and other industrial consumers.
