India Says “Will Take Appropriate Action” Over Trump’s Remarks On PM Modi

India has responded cautiously after a resurfaced video showed US President Donald Trump making remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the video, Trump is heard saying that he does not want to “destroy Modi’s political career” and describes him as a “great man.”

The clip, reportedly from an earlier press conference, has recently gained attention on social media.

Responding to questions during a weekly press briefing on Thursday, Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, said he had not seen the video.

“I have not seen the video. But if indeed there is such a video, whether it is true or false, we will take appropriate action on it,” Jaiswal said.

In the resurfaced clip, Trump praises PM Modi and says, “He’s a great man. Modi is a great man that he loves Trump.” He also added that his comments should not be taken differently and said he has watched India for many years.

The remarks were reportedly made during a joint appearance with the FBI Director in October last year.

During the same briefing, Jaiswal also spoke about India’s ties with Russia and ongoing cooperation in trade, defence, and cultural exchanges.

He further clarified that recent amendments in a US factsheet on the India-US interim trade agreement reflect “shared understandings” between the two countries.

He said the joint statement issued on February 7, 2026, remains the basis for moving forward with the trade deal.

India and the United States continue to maintain strong diplomatic and economic relations, and both sides are working towards finalising the interim agreement.

The government has not announced any further steps regarding Trump’s remarks but said it will act if necessary.
