India's Largest International Cruise Terminal To Be Inaugurated In Mumbai: Know All About It

Mumbai, Maharashtra: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate India’s largest and most expansive cruise terminal at the Mumbai Ballard Pier on September 20, Saturday. Termed as a world-class gateway for both domestic and international cruise tourism, the new Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT), at Indira Dock is expected to transform the city into a hub for tourism and luxury sea cruises.

Spreads across 4,15,000 square feet, the terminal was built at a cost of Rs 556 crore. The four-level (G+3) complex is expected to handle around one million passengers each year, which is approximately 10,000 travelers on a day.

The terminal can reportedly berth up to five cruise liners at once, facilitating quick turnaround even during peak hours. There are 72 counters for check-in and immigration to ensure smooth movement. The operational area alone measures about 1,70,000 square feet, with round-the-year functioning to meet the demands of global cruise schedules.

The terminal has a wavy ceiling reflecting the oceanic hues. The interior follows a minimalist yet functional design ethos, which has been planned as a space for the public and not for travelers. People can visit the terminal for leisure, recreation and shopping, making it a year-round destination, in addition to seasonal sea cruises.
