Indore Old Age Home Shut After Video Showed Teen Boy Hitting Elderly Woman With Stick

Indore, Madhya Pradesh: A viral video showing a 14-year-old boy assaulting elderly women with a stick at an old age home in Indore has prompted district authorities to order an inquiry and shut down the facility.

The incident took place at a senior care home run by the Maharana Pratap Welfare Society in the Marimata area of Indore. The viral video shows the teenage boy beating an elderly woman with a stick allegedly after an argument broke out between the two.

Boy was staying at home after mother’s death.  The boy’s mother had been admitted to the facility five months ago after suffering severe burn injuries. Following her death, the minor continued to stay at the home, according to Banganga police and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rubina Mizwani.

According to the police, the boy’s mental condition seemed unstable. The authorities had ordered an inquiry in the incident, which found the old age home unregistered. The home was operating without mandatory recognition from the Social Justice Department. The home which houses around 30 elderly residents and is run primarily through public donations.

The boy has been shifted for counselling, and the officials have not registered FIR against the minor in view of his age and psychological condition.  Officials said he will undergo counselling and be shifted to Childline and a designated juvenile care institution for rehabilitation.
