Liquor Policy Case: Arvind Kejriwal Gets Bail For Skipping Summons

Delhi”s Rouse Avenue Court today granted bail for Aam Aadmi Supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal against his potential arrest for skipping Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons in alleged liquor policy scam. The AAP chief had skipped all the eight summons issued by the probe agency in the case. By skipping the repeated ED summons, Mr Kejriwal violated section 174 of the Indian Penal Code.

The Court noted that the offence committed by Mr Kejriwal is a bailable one while granting the bail, asking him to furnish a personal bond worth Rs 15,000 and a security bond of Rs one lakh.

The Court summoned the 55-year-old Delhi chief minister after the ED informed it that Mr Kejriwal is not cooperating with the investigation and has skipped eight summons issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The ED had filed a non-compliance complaint against the Delhi chief minister in the Court for the second time.

The Delhi Chief Minister has been accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government of using the central agencies to target opposition leaders. Many AAP leaders including the former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh have been arrested by the central agency in the money laundering case associated with the alleged excise policy scam.
