After eighth summons, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal responded to the Enforcement Directorate (ED). “Summons is illegal, but ready to answer”, he said in the reply. Delhi Chief Minister has asked for a date after March 12 from the central probe agency. After that, Arvind Kejriwal will attend the hearing concerning the Delhi excise policy case through video conferencing, sources told PTI.

By issuing the eighth summons on February 27, the ED has asked Arvind Kejriwal to appear before the agency on March 4. The summons was in connection with the alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy case. The Delhi Chief Minister failed to appear before the federal agency on all the past seven occasions. The prior summonses issued by the ED on February 26, February 19, February 2, January 18, January 3, and November 2, and December 21, the previous year. AAP supremo slammed that the summons were “illegal” and the ED”s only aim was to arrest him.

Subsequently, the central probe agency has lodged complaint against Arvind Kejriwal over non-compliance with the summons issued to him in a Delhi court. The Court has exempted the Chief Minister from personal appearance until March 16. While attending the court proceedings virtually Arvind Kejriwal referred his prior engagement concerning the ongoing Budget session of the Delhi assembly as the reason behind his inability to appear in person.

While skipping the seventh summons, Arvind Kejriwal said that instead of sending summons daily, the federal agency should wait for the court”s decision.

According to ED”s allegation, the AAP has received bribes amounting Rs. 100 crores in connection to the 2021-22 excise policy. Besides, in one of its six charge sheets, the agency stated that the excise policy was devised by Arvind Kejriwal, although he has not been formally charged in the case.

Earlier in relation with the Delhi excise policy case, Senior AAP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and another AAP leader, Sanjay Singh, have been arrested.
