Kolkata Police saved a man”s life by offering him a job and a packet of Biryani. The incident happened on Monday afternoon when a 40-year-old man climbed bridge number 4 at Park Circus and threatened to commit suicide, causing traffic disturbance for nearly half an hour.
The man, reportedly was under severe emotional stress due to his separation from his wife and financial difficulties rose from business losses.
“Around 2.30pm, he was taking his elder daughter to Science City on his two-wheeler. He suddenly stopped near the bridge and told her that his mobile phone had fallen somewhere on the road and he was trying to spot it. Leaving her standing on the road, he climbed up the bridge and then threatened to jump off,” a police officer from Karaya station told PTI.
Receiving the alert, the police officer added that a team from the local police station, along with personnel from the Kolkata Police Disaster Management Group (DMG) and the fire department reached the spot and started conversing with him. While speaking with the daughter, police came to know about the situation of the man and the issues bothering him, following the police has formulated plans to convince him come down from the bridge. The offers regarding employment and biryani agreed the man to come down, the police officer added.
Continuing further, officer stated that they feared that if the man had slipped from top of the bridge, he could have either hit the electric poles or would have fallen on the railway tracks.
