Security has ramped up across Mumbai city after the Intelligence Bureau warned of a possible terror attack during the upcoming festival season. Crowded places, especially places of worship, have beefed up security with instructions sent out to report any suspicious activity as a precautionary measure.

Mumbai Police has been asked to conduct mock drills amid the terror threat.

“We have been instructed to conduct ‘mock drills’ at crowded places and religious sites. All Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) have been asked to pay special attention to security arrangements in their respective zones,” police said.

Reportedly, Crawford Market area had heavy police presence on Friday. The police also stated that with upcoming festivals and assembly elections in mind, they are conducting security drills at key locations in Mumbai.

“With upcoming festivals and assembly elections, we are conducting security drills at Crawford Market and other key locations across the city,” said a police official.

Police officials inspected a temple’s security arrangements in Chembur while a temple in Matunga was closed for devotees after a police inspection, according to the Times of India.
