The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai and surrounding districts of Thane, Raigad, and Palghar for Thursday. The weather department predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall, with gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph.
Following the heavy downpour, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced a holiday for all schools and colleges on September 26.

Parts of the city experienced over 200mm of rainfall between 5 pm and 10 pm on Wednesday, while Powai recorded 234mm, Mankhurd 276mm, and Ghatkopar 259mm, marking the highest rainfall in the city during this period.
Local trains were delayed, and a few other trains were rescheduled as heavy rains continued to lash the city since Wednesday morning. In a recent update on X, the railways said that all trains are running normally.

A 45-year-old woman named Vimal Gaikwad drowned in an open drain in Andheri’s MIDC area. The woman was rescued by the Mumbai fire brigade and rushed to Cooper Hospital but was declared brought dead by doctors, BMC officials said.

The torrential downpour triggered a landslide at the Mumbai bypass around 11:30 pm, causing further disruptions to traffic movement in the city, which lasted for over 3 hours.
Severe waterlogging was reported in Kurla East, Nehru Nagar, and Chembur yesterday. The situation improved as road and rail traffic was back to operating as the water receded.
