Islamabad, Pakistan: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday expressed willingness to seek peace with India, days after conflict escalated between the two neighbouring countries. After India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’  targeting terror camps in Pakistan, Pakistan attacked India with missiles and drones, prompting counterstrikes against multiple Pakistani airbases.

On the verge of a full-scale war, both countries agreed to a ceasefire earlier on Sunday, ending the alarming escalation between the two nuclear-armed countries.

Notably, Prime Minister Sharif’s offer readiness to engage in peace talks with India came during his visit to Kamra air base in Pakistan’s Punjab province, where he interacted with officers and soldiers who were part of the military confrontation with India.

India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which gunned down 26 people. During the operation, India targeted Pakistani terror bases, killing more than 100 terrorists, according to India’s defense minister Rajnath Singh. Pakistan’s military earlier this week confirmed that a total of 11 soldiers and 40 civilians have been killed in Indian strikes in nine locations inside Pakistan and Pak-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

In retaliation, Pakistan attempted to attack several Indian military bases on May 8, 9 and 10, and engaged in fierce shelling across the border. Five Indian soldiers and 16 civilians were killed in Pakistani attacks against India.

As Pakistan attempted to attack several Indian military bases, India targeted several Pakistani military installations, damaging some of the facilities.

While addressing the nation after the recent conflict, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that if India ever talks with Pakistan it would be only on terrorism and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, noting that terror, trade and talks cannot be done together.
