Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the country’s longest sea bridge, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), on January 12, 2024, which is another milestone in India’s infrastructure development.

The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewari – Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, apart from being the longest in the country, also ranks 12th longest globally. Taking to X, PM wrote, “”I look forward to being among the people of Maharashtra tomorrow, 12th January, which is also the Jayanti of Jija Mata and Swami Vivekananda. In Nashik, I will pray at the Shree Kalaram Mandir and attend the National Youth Festival”.

The bridge is 16.5 km long over sea and about 5.5 km on land and it aims to provide faster connectivity to Mumbai International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport. The project also aims to reduce the travel time from Mumbai to Puna, Goa and South India.

The longest sea bridge in India, will receive the official node from the PM at approximately 3:30 pm in Mumbai.

The bridge was built at a cost of more than Rs 17,840 crore, according to an official statement.

The Maharashtra government has passed a proposal on January 11 to charge Rs 250 as a one-way toll for cars on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL). An official confirmed that only half the amount of toll, as per the existing law of toll collection is charged by the Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde cabinet during the day.

After formally inaugurating the bridge, Narendra Modi will attend a public programme in Navi Mumbai where he will inaugurate and will lay foundation stone of multiple development projects worth more than Rs 12,700 crore.

The PMO statement said PM Modi will lay the foundation stone of an underground road tunnel connecting the eastern freeway’s orange gate to Marine drive. The 9.2km tunnel will be built at a cost of more than ₹8,700 crore, reports Hindustan Times.

Prime minister will also launch the Namo Mahila Shashaktikaran Abhiyaan that seeks to empower women in the state of Maharashtra by providing skill development training and exposure to entrepreneurship training and exposure to entrepreneurship development.
