The security measures were strengthened outside the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday, January 4. This development comes as several Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders expressed apprehensions that AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal’s residence could be raided today and that he could be arrested.

“News coming in that ED is going to raid @ArvindKejriwal’s residence tmrw morning. Arrest likely,” wrote Delhi”s Law and PWD Minister, Atishi, on her X handle on January 3. AAP Rajya Sabha MP and national general secretary Sandeep Pathak also claimed in an X post that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) would raid the Delhi CM”s residence on Thursday morning. AAP leaders, including Saurabh Bhardwaj and Jasmine Shah, also shared similar posts.

Notably, these claims surfaced after Arvind Kejriwal skipped the 3rd summons for questioning in the Delhi excise policy case. The AAP leader had also refused to appear before ED on November 2 and December 21. At the same time, Arvind Kejriwal wrote to the ED on Wednesdays, questioning the intent of the summons served to him by ED. In the letter, the Delhi CM said that ED summons is “motivated and issued for vexatious considerations.” Arvind Kejriwal also added that the summons fail to provide the reason why he have been summoned.

“In the meanwhile, I would be happy to respond to any questionnaire if you seek any information/documents, which are in my knowledge/possession,” added Arvind Kejriwal in his letter. Meanwhile, BJP criticised Arvind Kejriwal as he skipped the third summon by ED. “This shows that there is something to hide, and that is why he is absconding like a criminal,” said BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla.
