Supreme Court Grants Bail To Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal

The Supreme Court has granted bail to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday in liquor policy case after six months he has been arrested. Kejriwal becomes the fourth high-profile leader to walk out of the jail after AAP leaders Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, Vijay Nair and Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s K Kavitha.

In a plea submitted to the court, Delhi CM had sought bail and questioned his arrest by the CBI in the excise policy case. While granting him bail in the case, the Supreme Court said Kejriwal satisfies the triple conditions for the bail.

The court added that it has framed three questions based on arguments. “We have framed 3 questions. Whether there was illegality in arrest, whether appellant should be allowed regular bail, whether filing of chargesheet is change in circumstance enough to relegate to TC,” Justices Surya Kant said.

Kejriwal was initially taken into custody in March by central agency ED, just week’s before the Lok Sabha polls, due to alleged irregularities in the capital city’s liquor policy.

Though, he was granted bail in July, he remained in detention due to his arrest a month previously by the federal police in a graft case related to the same policy.
