Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman alleged that the Tamil Nadu government has banned live telecast of all the programmes to the inauguration of Ram Temple in Ayodhya which will happen on January 22. She made the allegation on her official X (formerly twitter).
She said that the Tamil Nadu government is banning mass feeding and special poojas in temples of the state on January 22. Her statement read, “there are over 200 temples for Shri Ram. In HR&CE managed temples no puja/bhajan/prasadam/annadanam in the name of Shri Ram is allowed. Police are stopping privately held temples also from organising events. They are threatening organisers that they will rip off pandals. Strongly condemn this anti-Hindu, hateful action”.
The minister shared image of a Tamil news article, which according to media report is an article published on Dinamalar , a Tamil Nadu daily, known for its alleged lean towards right-wing. The article read that oral orders have been passed to temple authorities to not to allow any pooja in the name of Lord Ram.

Niramala Sitaraman further tweeted that “heartbreaking scenes in several parts of TN. People are threatened for organising bhajans, feeding the poor, celebrating with sweets even as we wish to watch Honourable PM Narendra Modi participate in Ayodhya… This is I.N.D.I Alliance partner DMK’s anti-Hindu efforts,”. She also said that cable TV operators in Tamil Nadu was told that there is likely a powers shutdown during the live telecast on Monday.
The allegations were strongly refuted by Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR&HC) minister P K Sekarbabu, who said that the HR&HC “department hasn’t imposed any limitations on devotees’ freedom”, and added that it is unfortunate that people like Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman would participate in “purposefully propagating this erroneous information”.
