The District Registration Officer (DEO) directed government teachers to supervise the arrangements for the stay of Punjab Chief minister Bhagwat Mann’s security personnel in six schools ahead of Aam Aadmi Party’s Bathinda rally. The order was issued as written notice dated December 14 urging the teachers to ensure the availability of electricity, water and cleanliness for the personnel.
The order was withdrawn on Friday and the Deputy Commission Showkat Ahmed Parray said that the educational officer issued the order without consulting him. As per the notice, the head teachers of the six schools were asked to remain in the schools till December 17 to take care of the security personnel who were scheduled to arrive on Friday evening. The teachers were asked to ensure proper water, power and electricity in schools.
As per the Indian express report, the notice was sent to head teachers of GPS Maur Mandi, SD Govt High School Maur Mandi, SD GPS Maur Mandi, GSSS Maur Kalan, GSSS Maur Khurd and GSSS Maur Mandi (girls).
The schools were asked to declare holiday for December 16. However, the state education department had decided to conduct a mega Parent teacher meeting (PTM) for all students in Punjab on the same day.
The Deputy Commission after withdrawing the order said that alternative arrangements will be made for CM’s security and the schools can conduct PT meeting as scheduled.
“They just issued the order at their own level to close the school tomorrow after getting a call from some police officer. I have issued show-cause notices to both DEO (elementary) Shivpal and DEO (secondary) Bhupinder Kaur,” the Bathinda deputy commissioner added.
Amid speculation that Punjab Congress will go alone in Lok Sabha election next year, ruling AAP is holding rallies in all 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in Punjab. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab chief minister Bhagwat Mann have already addressed five rallies in Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, Patiala, Sangrur and Hoshiarpur. Kejriwal and Mann will reach Bathinda for Vikas Kranti rally on Sunday.
