The Chief Minister Revanth Reddy-led Telangana government has decided to change the state’s official abbreviation. Hence, Telangana”s abbreviation will be changed to TG from TS. This significant decision was taken at the state cabinet meeting on Sunday.

Following the Telangana government”s decision, vehicle registration numbers will now have “TG” as a prefix. After the Telangana formation in 2014, then TRS government opted for “TS” as the state abbreviation. According to an NDTV report, the ruling dispensation has accused the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the former regime, of having chosen “TS” to match their party name. It is worth mentioning that K Chandrasekhar Rao”s BRS was earlier known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

During a press conference on Sunday, Ministers D Sridhar Babu and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said that the former government had decided to have “TS” as a prefix to vehicle registration numbers against the gazette notification given by the central government. Minister D Sridhar Babu also pointed out that no other state in India has “state” in the alphabet component in the vehicle registration number.

Meanwhile, the Telangana government also decided to take up the caste census in the state. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy earlier stated that a caste census will be conducted in the state soon. The government also decided to adopt the “Jaya Jaya he Telangana” song, penned by poet Ande Sri, as the state song. The state cabinet, under the chairmanship of CM Revanth Reddy, also took the decision to begin the Budget session of the state legislature on February 8.
