As tributes are pouring in for former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh after he died on Thursday night, memories are being recalled about the iconic economist-politician who has been credited with India’s transition to globalisation and subsequent economic boost. Amidst this, an interesting video of former US president Barack Obama’s remark has gained traction on the social media platform X.
The video is part of an interview conducted by journalist Karan Thapar with the former US president. The video showed Barack Obama extolling Dr. Singh warmly when he was asked about his relationship with incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

During the interview, the journalist tells the president that he has talked a lot about his relationship with Prime Minister Modi. “On his invitation you came to India as a chief guest, becoming the first US president to be the chief guest for India’s Republic Day, and you did a joint radio broadcast together,” states Karan Thapar, noting that the Prime Minister frequently refers to the US president as “My friend Barack.”
The interviewers eventually asked the US president what his opinion was about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The US president, stating that he liked Modi, went on to praise the former prime minister, adding that he was great friends with Mr. Singh. The two times US president underscored that the works and steps the economist took modernized the country’s economy. “He really put foundations for the modern Indian economy,” the US president was heard saying in the video.
