Eliza Gupta, an ex-civil judge and judicial magistrate from Nagaur of Rajasthan said she has been getting threat calls and messages from unknown numbers. She told The Quint that, “I am still getting threatening calls and messages from unknown numbers ever since I have called out a few senior advocates”.

Ms. Gupta’s claim comes days after she wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of India (CJI), D Y Chandrachud and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which she sought justice for being unduly harassed and losing her job.

The 35-year-old Ms. Gupta narrated her story in the letter and said that she loses her job as a Judge because she raised her voice “against such incidents on October 6, 2023”. She said she was harassed as a Judge, her FIR was not registered and was removed from her service. She adds that she was “threatened, abused and assaulted” by her senior lawyers, and the Governor of the Rajasthan was also allegedly abused.

The Quint quoted her words as, “what retard they have given the seat to, what does she think of herself? She is a s**t. We’ll call everyone and cause her to suffer. We will hold your braid and drag you down the dais. Do whatever you want. We’ll see to you”.  Ms. Gupta alleges in the letter that she was transferred four times in two years.

In the letter to the Chief Justice of India, she sought justice with “folded hands” and said that she will fight till death for the protection of judges. Eliza Gupta told The Quint, “I want my service back. Even in private jobs, you are given a reason or a notice. But in law, for a woman, there is no safety. I want action against culprits too”.

Earlier, a woman Judge from Uttar Pradesh wrote a letter to CJI and said that she is seeking to “end her life” by stating that she had no hope for “fair inquiry” over an alleged sexual harassment by her senior.
