TM Shahid Thekkil Elected Karnataka Minimum Wage Board Commission Chairman
In a significant boost for labour rights advocacy in Karnataka, TM Shahid Thekkil, a seasoned Congress leader and General Secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), has been elected as Chairman of the Karnataka State Labour Minimum Wage Advisory Board. The appointment, announced by KC Venugopal, AICC General Secretary in charge of organisation.
TM Shahid Thekkil, hailing from the prestigious Thekkil family in coastal Karnataka’s Sullia taluk, brings decades of experience in labour, social, and political spheres to the role. Established under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, the Advisory Board plays a pivotal part in recommending wage revisions for scheduled employments, ensuring compliance across sectors like agriculture, construction, and textiles.
With Karnataka’s minimum wages set to be reviewed for 2025-26 – as highlighted in recent state notifications – Thekkil’s leadership is expected to drive equitable adjustments, potentially benefiting millions of low-wage earners.
