Tributes Pour In, Highlighting Maulana Abul Kalam Azad's Contributions On His Death Anniversary
New Delhi: Several political leaders have taken to their social media platforms paying tributes to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first Education Minister, freedom fighter, scholar, and Bharat Ratna recipient, on his death anniversary on Sunday, February 22.
The tributes, calling Azad one of the key architects of modern India, highlighted his foundational contributions to India’s education system, including advocacy for central authority over education, establishment of institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology and University Grants Commission, and promotion of national unity and inclusive learning.

Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar observed that Maulana Abul Kalam Azad dedicated his life to India’s independence and to the cause of education for all. “He believed that true freedom must be strengthened by learning, equality, and mutual respect. On his death anniversary, we honour his enduring legacy of wisdom and national unity,” the Congress leader wrote on X.
