Google Offered 300 Percent Salary Hike In order To Retain An Employee

Aravind Srinivas, CEO Perplexity AI, on Big Technology Podcast shared how big tech companies can go to retain their talent intact. He informed about one Google employee who wanted to switch to Perplexity AI and offered 300 percent hike in salary.

This comes as Google CEO Sundar Pichai warned employees of more job cuts this year in a memo. These role eliminations will not touch every team and company looks to adopt artificial intelligence software and automation. Pichai mentioned about the company’s ambitions and big priority investments.

IIT Madaras alumnus Srinivas reportedly attempted to appoint an “amazing” Google employee to his firm, Perplexity AI. An employee would naturally contact his employer to let them know about the new job offer after speaking with this company. Google went above and beyond, surprising industry insiders and employees alike with an offer that surpassed even the highest hopes.

According to Srinivas, the worker is still employed with Google, indicating that he took Google”s 300 percent pay increase. The worker who got a pay increase, according to Aravind Srinivas, was a member of the “search team.” They were not even directly involved with its artificial intelligence branch.

Considering the Googles’ commitment to AI, the company is set to create the capacity for this investment and will take tough decisions, informs CEO Pichai. Prior to this, Sundar Pichai had disclosed plans to eliminate 12,000 workers, or 6% of the company”s worldwide workforce.

Since January 10, Google is said to have let go of around a thousand workers across multiple departments. Notably, the search engine giant released hundreds of employees working for Voice Assistant units, Hardware Teams, Advertising sales team and Augmented Reality Team.

According to the information available, 182,381 people worked for the company worldwide as of September 2023. Prior to last year”s layoffs, the corporation employed 190,700 employees worldwide in addition to tens of thousands of contractors.
