Kalamassery Blast: A Person From Same Sect Claims Responsibility

Dramatic scenes are unfolding in Kerala today. After the incident of blast happened at the Zamra international convention and Exhibition Centre, during the prayer meet of Jehova’s Witnesses, killing two and injuring several, an individual identified as Dominic Martin claimed the responsibility of the blast and surrendered to police.

Kerala State Police said Mr. Martin claims to be from the “same sabha” (same community). ADGP of Kerala, MR Ajith Kumar while speaking to reporters said the police is verifying Mr. Martin’s claims. “One person has surrendered in Kodakra police station, in Trissur Rural, claiming that he has done it, his name is Dominic Martin and he claims that he belonged to the same group of sabha. We are verifying it. We are looking into all aspects of this case”, he said.

Before surrendering, Mr. Martin went live on Facebook claiming responsibility of the blast. In the video he said he did the deed because he was unhappy with the sect’s activities and he is one among the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Allegedly the video was posted on his Facebook page, which was later deleted.

Earlier Kerala Chief minister has called the blast “very unfortunate” and promised thorough investigation. Home Minister Amit Shah also talked with the Chief Minister and enquired about the “stock of the situation”.

As per report, Dominic Martin said he did everything on his own without external help. He said he purchased the materials for making the explosive from Kochi. Police said Mr. Martin”s search histories showed he learned to create the explosive with the help of YouTube videos. Charges against Mr. Martin also included UAPA, says report.

Meanwhile, report says Delhi has tightened security around churches and “special vigil” around the crowded places. In a statement, Delhi Police said, “the special cell is in constant touch with the intelligence agencies and any input will not be taken lightly. Security arrangements are being made at the crowded place”, as reported by Mint.

Mumbai Police also said security has been tightened around Jewish centres like Chabad House adhering to the Israel-Palestine war.

Earlier Kerala Police has warned against propagating provocative messages and fake news through social media that could add fuel to the already fragile situation in the State.
