According to the recently published India Skills Report 2024, two cities in Kerala, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, has risen as the most preferred city to work among the youth in India.

Kerala is the second state with the most employable resources among the 18-21 age groups, as per the report published by talent assessment agency Wheebox in association with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Confederation of India Industry (CII), Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Google, and Taggd.

The employability in India has improved as 51.25 % of the surveyed are employable with required skills. This report was issued on the basis of the National Employability Test conducted for 3.88 lakh youth across the country.

Kochi came second and Thiruvananthapuram came in fourth, when surveyed for the cities where the men and women prefers to work equally. Kochi is the first among the top 10 cities where the most women prefer to work. Thiruvananthapuram was ranked third by showing excellence in the employability among the 18-21 age group.

Kerala known for its emphasis on education and skill development, secured the second position in overall employability among the 18-21 age group. By achieving this, the city has once more reaffirmed its status as robust talent pool in the country.

In nurturing the computer skills, Thiruvananthapuram claimed first position while Kerala at large secured third spot in the domain.

Kerala overall stands out for its balanced approach to education, encompassing futuristic skills, general knowledge, and practical skills.

In addition to the rankings, the comprehensive curriculum, notably advanced by the Additional Skill Acquisition Programme of a Kerala (ASAP Kerala) of the Department of Higher Education, was appreciated for its role in enhancing employability and skill development among the state’s youth.

The report also highlights the states dominance in Information Technology, Computer Science and engineering job skills. Moreover, the English language proficiency, computer literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking skills indicates adept at meeting the diverse needs of various industrial needs.

The Community Skill Parks and Centers of Excellence established by ASAP Kerala have also been recognized as exemplary models for training in advanced technologies across the nation. The report also acknowledged government’s robust initiatives in skill training and development and lauded ASAP’s impact in imparting skills to over 2.5 lakh higher secondary students in the last decade.
