Thrippunithura Heads For Tight Finish As UDF & LDF Push Hard

Thrippunithura, Ernakulam: As campaigning comes to an end before the Kerala Assembly Elections scheduled for April 9, Thrippunithura is getting ready for what is observed to be a close contest. Both the LDF and UDF are making a final push to get a clear lead.

The constituency is in the Ernakulam district and has about 1.84 lakh voters. It is a mix of urban and traditional voters. Voters here have become more politically aware in recent years, which has made elections more competitive.

The change was clear in the 2021 Assembly election, where UDF candidate K. Babu beat LDF candidate M. Swaraj by only 992 votes (0.63%). This was a big shift from the 2016 election, when the LDF won the seat by more than 4,000 votes. The change showed that the race is getting tighter in the constituency.

The UDF has put up Deepak Joy this time while the LDF fielded K. N. Unnikrishnan. The presence of Anjali P. V., a candidate from the Twenty20 party, has added another layer to the race, although the main contest is still between Kerala’s two major fronts.

Everyday problems seem to be more important to voters than big political stories. Some of the main issues that people are bringing up are traffic jams, infrastructure development, and calls for better public transportation, such as expansion the metro. At the same time, people are also worried about keeping the area’s cultural and historical identity intact as cities grow quickly.

The UDF has an advantage going into the election because they won the seat last time, but the very small margin means they can’t be too sure of their victory. The LDF seems to be counting on even a small change in votes to make the outcome go their way, thanks to a strong organizational base.

There is no clear front-runner in Thrippunithura, so it is still one of the most closely watched constituencies in the district. The final result will probably depend on how many people vote and how those who are still undecided vote on polling day.
