The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its first candidate list on Saturday. In the first list, the saffron party has fielded Lalubhai Patel as its candidate for the Daman & Diu constituency.
The first announced list consists of 195 candidates. Daman and Diu is one of the two Lok Sabha constituencies in the Union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu in West India. Lalubhai Patel is aiming for his fourth term in Daman. He was initially elected to the lower house of the parliament in 2009. Later, his saga continued.
Lalubhai Patel was reelected in the 2014 and 2019 elections. Without any second thought, the BJP has fielded Lalu Bahir Patel as its candidate in Daman once again.
Lalubhai Patel was born to Shri Babubhai G.Patel and Chandanben B. Patel. He was married to Taruna L. Patel.
Patel won the 2014 election with a margin of over 9,000 votes. He won the seat by defeating his nearest Congress rival Ketan Patel by a margin of 9,942 votes. The BJP candidate received 37,586 votes while the Congress candidate received 27,643 votes.
In 2009, Lalubhai Patel won with a great margin of 24,838 votes. The opposition candidate from the Congress party was only able to secure 28.97% votes. Being a three-time MP, he will pose as a great threat to the opponent candidates.
Daman and Diu came into existence as a separate union territory following the Goa, Daman and Diu Reorganisation Act of 1987. Till then it remained as a part of Goa after it was liberated from Portuguese rule. In the first by-election, the Congress Party won from the constituency.
