BJP's Bharath Prasad Stands For His Father's Nagarkurnool Seat (bharathp7)

Reserved for scheduled castes (SC), the Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha constituency is currently represented by Pothuganti Ramulu who won the seat as a Bharat Rashtra Samithi (formerly known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi) candidate. On February 29, Ramulu and his son Bharath Prasad Ramulu joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The saffron party hailed Pothuganti Ramulu as a dedicated Dalit leader and a valuable asset for the party. According to BJP, including the ex-BRS MP, known for his clean reputation despite being in the field of politics for years, will be a signal to marginalised sections of society such as the SC and ST’s about the popularity of PM Modi and his welfare schemes.

Ramulu’s son, Bharath Prasad is a Zilla Praja Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC). BJP claimed that BRS leaders had denied the Zilla Parishad chairperson post to Prasad, “the BRS leaders wanted to prevent his rise. Mr. Modi has a strong following across the country and Telangana cannot be different. The Congress government has come to power by default in TS because of BRS scams and family rule, whereas it is the BJP which is fast becoming a strong political force to reckon with,” as quoted The Hindu report.

After the father-son duo made their way under the BJP umbrella, the party has nominated Bharath Prasad for the Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha seat.

Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha constituency consists of Wanaparthy, Gadwal, Kalwakurthy, Kollapur, Alampur (SC reserved), and Achampet (SC reserved). In 2014, general elections, Congress candidate Nandi Yellaiah won with 37 percent votes. In the next general elections, with 50 percent votes, Pothunganti Ramulu secured the seat with a significant margin, defeating Congress’ Dr. Mallu Ravi who got 31 percent votes.
