The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Giriraj Singh has won the Begusarai Lok Sabha seat for yet another term. He has defeated Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate Abdhesh Kumar Roy with a margin of 81,480 votes. While Singh won 6,49,331 votes while Roy secured 5,67,851 votes and came in second in the electoral race.
Singh currently serves as the Union Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department. He grabbed headlines for his controversial statement against Muslim voters. He said that vote Jihad is going on all over the country to defeat PM Modi. “Love Jihad happened, Land Jihad happened and now Vote Jihad is happening. To counter this vote jihad, every Sanatani will have to stand with PM Modi. Only then will we be able to compete with it”.
Previously, Singh said that people often say that he does ‘Hindu-Muslim’ politics. He said, “I also accept that I do Hindu-Muslim politics. But I also do politics of development. During my tenure of five years, Begusarai has been developed at a cost of thousands of crores.”
The opposition INDIA bloc candidate is Abdhesh Kumar Roy, of the Communist Party of India (CPI). Rai represented the Bachwara constituency in the state legislative assembly in 1990 and 1995. However, in the 2000 elections, he lost the seat to RJD candidate Uttam Kumar Yadav by a slight margin of 464 votes. He regained the seat in 2010. During his tenure, he was the sole CPI legislator in Bihar.
So far, the saffron party is leading in four seats and has won eight seats. The Janata Dal (United) closely follows behind the BJP with five seats won and leading in seven.
