Lok Sabha Election Result 2024: Satabadi Roy Secures Fourth Term From Birbhum

AITC candidate Satabadi Roy wins the fourth term in Lok Sabha Election 2024 from the Birbhum Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of 1,97,650 votes. BJP fielded Debtanu Bhattacharya and Congress to Milton Rashid against Satabdi Roy. BJP candidate Debtanu Bhattacharya remained at the second place in Birbhum.

This is the fourth term of the TMC candidate Satabdi Roy as she has been winning the Birbhum seat since 2009. The actor turned political performance in the lower house was not been impressive in comparison to her acting career as her attendance and participation in the house remained abysmal. Earlier some feud emerged between her and TMC and rumors emerged of her joining the BJP which she refuted by denying joining any party.

The Birbhum constituency was reserved for the Schedule Caste category from 1962 to 2004 and declared as a free seat in 2009. From 1971 to 2009, the Communist Party of India (CPI-M) won elections here. In 2019, TMC candidate Satabdi Roy won the election in Birbhum by securing 45.13% votes while BJP candidate Dudh Kumar Mondal was the runner-up after securing 38.99% votes. In this election, Ms Roy secured an uptick of 7.32 percent in the vote share whereas the BJP candidate registered an increase of 20.52%.

During the 2014, Lok Sabha elections the TMC MP defeated Dr Mohammad Qamre Elahi of CPI after securing a total of 36.09 percent votes. While BJP candidate Joy Banerjee came third after getting 18.47% votes.

In 2009, Satabdi Roy secured 47.82 percent votes to grab the Birbhum parliamentary seat while CPI (M) and BJP candidates remained in second and third positions respectively.
