
Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: BJP's Jayanta Kumar Roy Defeated TMC Candidate In Jalpaiguri Constituency
BJP candidate Jayanta Kumar Roy has won the Lok Sabha Election 2024 from the Jalpaiguri Lok Sabha constituency with a total of 86,693 vote margin. The Trinamool Congress Nirmal Chandra Roy has secured the second place in Jalpaiguri.
The BJP candidate from Jalpaiguri Lok Sabha constituency Jayanta Kumar Roy is a doctor by profession who attained MBBS and MD from North Bengal Medical College. The sitting BJP MP Jayanta Kumar Roy while seeing his re-election from the Jalpaiguri Lok Sabha constituency could not vote for himself in the election as he is registered in adjacent Darjeeling constituency.
The BJP fielded Jayanta Kumar Roy again after considering his earlier performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP candidate recorded an over 50% vote share out of the total voter turnout. Jayanta Kumar Roy added 33.63% more votes to BJP’s vote share in the Jalpaiguri Lok Sabha constituency.
In 2014, the Trinamool Congress candidate Bijoy Chandra Barman won with a total 38 percent vote share. Whereas the CPI (M) candidate was the runner-up candidate. Since 1980, the Jalpaiguri Lok Sabha constituency has been a CPI (M) stronghold before TMC took over the constituency. This year CPI (M) fielded Debraj Burman from the constituency but the party has seen a significant dip in vote share in the last few elections.
