BJP’s high profile candidate Piyush Goyal is leading with 74,083 votes from the Mumbai North constituency. Piyush was pitted against Congress’s Bhushan Patil. As per the Election commission report, Piyush is leading with 1,96,558 votes.
Union minister Piyush Goyal had made his electoral debut by contesting in the Mumbai North constituency. He is one of the top ministers in the Narendra Modi government and has been in charge of crucial ministries in the last 10 years. In 2010, Goyal got elected as the BJP candidate for the Rajya Sabha and was appointed again in 2016 and 2022. Being one of the high-profile ministers in the cabinet, the reforms and initiatives introduced by Piyush have been noteworthy.
Congress candidate Bhushan Patil is the vice president of the Congress’ Mumbai unit. He has earlier contested the election in 2009 from the Borivalli constituency. He has been an active member of the party for past 25 years.
Historically, BJP has maintained a stronghold on this Lok sabha seat. BJP leader Ram Naik has secured the seat for five times. He had only faced challenge when Congress’s actor Govinda and Sanjay Nirupam took over the seat.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, BJP’s Goyal Shetty defeated Congress Sanjay Nirupam by securing 664,004 votes. meanwhile, Sanjay came second with 2,17,422 votes.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Shiv Sena’s Gajanan Chandrakant Kirtikar emerged victorious with 570,063 votes while Congress Sanjay came second receiving 309,735 votes.
As of now the trend in Maharashtra show that the INDIA bloc alliance is leading against the BJP led- NDA alliance. The state has witnessed a close contest between both the alliances.
