A woman IPS officer triggered a political storm by refusing the direct action taken on a call received from Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, where he was seen threatening the young police officer with action against her for not following his orders. Anjana Krishna, the young IPS officer, asked the DCM to call her directly on her number, instead of giving him orders on someone other’s phone, to follow the due procedure and rule of law.

The incident happened while on complaints, the IPS officer went to investigate illegal murum (red soil) excavation connected to a road construction project in Solapur’s Karmala village. The excavators refused to stop the excavation, and the NCP leader Baba Jagtap called Deputy CM Ajit Pawar. After handing over the phone to Anjana Krishna by Jagtap, the DCM directed her to stop the proceedings, citing the atmosphere (political) in Maharashtra.

The young Kerala-based IPS officer refused to take action after not recognising his voice and asked the DCM to call on her phone directly as part of the administrative procedure.
