Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley cleared Team India to fly out on Tuesday after the T20 World Champions were stranded due to Hurricane Beryl that hit the island on Sunday evening.
The Barbados PM also declared that the airport will be operational in the “next 12 hours,” following the forced shutdown due to the category 4 hurricane. As per a report in ESPN Cricinfo, the window for Team India to leave Bridgetown is as short as one day with another hurricane incoming on Wednesday.
“I don’t want to speak in advance of it, but I have literally been in touch with the airport personnel and they’re doing their last checks now and we want to resume normal operations as a matter of urgency,” Mottley told PTI.
“There are a number of people who were due to leave last night late or today or tomorrow morning. And we want to make sure that we can facilitate those persons, so I would anticipate that within the next six to 12 hours the airport will be open.”
The T20 World Cup 2024-winning Team India squad, support staff, and match officials have been stranded in Barbados for the last two days due to the Category 4 Hurricane Beryl.
The Men In Blue are expected to arrive in Delhi on Wednesday at 7:45 pm IST after departing from Bridgetown at 6 pm, as per a local source.
