The Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) is renovating the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to allow the Indian cricketers and non-cricketing athletes like double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra to make full use of the World Class facilities.
BCCI honorary secretary Jay Shah revealed that he had informed the ace Indian javelin thrower about the state-of-the-art facility in a recent meeting.
The new High-Performance Centre in Bengaluru will comprise of three grounds, and 100 pitches, including 45 turf doors. One of the most unique features of this centre is that it has all kinds of pitches which will allow the Indian cricketers to practice and prepare for touring the SENA nations.
“We wanted to make the best use of what we got on a platter. In 2008, we got that land and I don’t know why my predecessors didn’t use that. I am lucky that it was in my destiny to raise the academy. It was unfortunate that we had to run the National Cricket Academy (NCA) from the Chinnaswamy Stadium. We’re No. 1 in finances, No. 1 in marketing and we’re No. 1 in cricket also. If you look at the ranking, we are No. 1 in two formats and No. 2 in one format. Earlier we were No. 1 in all three formats,” Shah said in an interview to The Times of India.
Besides that, some academies will be formed in the North-Easter region and Jammu as well. Shah mentioned that developing facilities in the North-Eastern regions is their responsibility and developing the game is their right.
“It’s simple. They have got full membership and they are part of the country. Opportunity is their right and it is our responsibility too. Earlier they used to get Rs 5 crore and now they are getting Rs 20 crore to run the game.”
India Test great VVS Laxman is set to continue as the head of NCA. His contract which expires in September, will be renewed by the BCCI, Shah confirmed.
