Rohit Sharma-Led Team India Undergo First T20 World Cup 2024 Practice Session In New York

Rohit Sharma-led Team India underwent their first practice session for the T20 World Cup 2024 in New York. Alongside the Team India captain, vice-captain Hardik Pandya, pace ace Jasprit Bumrah, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, and Suryakumar Yadav were also a part of the initial drill.

Team India strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai gave a glimpse of the first training session in a video shared by the Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) on their X handle. He said that the main objective was to get acclimatized to the time zone in the United States and understand the conditions better.

“We came in day before yesterday and we just eased into our routines here. The idea was to get used to the time zone. Today we are having our first ground session,” Soham Desai the strength and conditioning coach of the team said in a video shared by the BCCI on Wednesday.

“They have been away for 2 and a half months from us. Just getting them together to know where they stand, what needs to be done before the World Cup was the goal. The goal today is to spend 45 mins to an hour on the park in this heat or whatever to again get going,” he added.

Bumrah, Pandya, Jadeja and Suryakumar also shared their experiences from the first training session.

“We have not yet played cricket. Come here for a team activity today. Hopefully it’ll be good. The weather is really good, so looking forward to it,” Bumrah said.

“Very exciting to be here in New York. Has a good vibe. Bright sun out,” Pandya said.

“First time we are gonna play cricket in New York. It’s gonna be super super fun,” Ravindra Jadeja quipped while Surya said, ” I heard cricket is growing here in the US so we are really excited.”

Team India run machine Virat Kohli was not present in the initial training session. He has taken a mini-break after the IPL 2024 and is likely to miss the warm-up match against Bangladesh on June 1.

The Men in Blue will begin their campaign against Ireland on June 5 and then will take on arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9 in the marquee event.
