A special chartered flight by Air India arrived at Barbados Airport to bring team India back home after their spectacular win at the T20 World Cup 2024. The Men in Blue had been stranded in the island country amid Hurricane Beryl, which has wreaked havoc in the Caribbean islands.

With the weather finally clearing in the nation, BCCI secretary Jay Shah arranged a flight named AIC24WC (Air India Champions 24 World Cup) for the team to return home.

The special charter flight, which took off from New Jersey on Tuesday and landed in the island nations in the early hours of Wednesday, will land in Delhi on Thursday (July 4).

Hurricane Beryl had led to a complete shutdown of airports in the region. The team and media personnel had been advised to stay in their hotels soon after the World Cup win as Barbados imposed a curfew due to the hurricane.

Reportedly, electricity and water supply in the region had also been affected on the island.

The BCCI has also offered Indian journalists and other media personnel who covered the tournament and were stuck in Barbados to travel on the same flight, as per reports.

Team India beat South Africa by seven runs in the finals held on June 29 at Kensington Oval Bridgetown in Barbados.

Following a three-day shutdown, Grantley Adams International Airport resumed operations on Tuesday after the Minister of Home Affairs gave an all-clear sign.

Hurricane Beryl has moved down from Category 5 to 4 and is now headed towards Jamaica. The country is still likely to witness heavy rain and strong winds due to a tropical wave making its way to Barbados.
