Popular Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt has become the latest victim of deepfake technology, and her deepfake video is being circulated widely on the internet. The latest video has raised serious concerns about the harmful use of artificial intelligence (AI). Earlier, Bollywood actresses Rashmika Mandanna, Kajol, and Katrina Kaif, as well as Sachin Tendulkar’s daughter Sara Tendulkar, also became victims of deepfake videos.
The video showcases a girl who is dressed in a blue floral co-ord set, and the girl”s face is swapped with that of Alia Bhatt. However, netizens pointed out that the girl in the obscene video is not the Bollywood actress. Alia Bhatt has not yet responded to this serious issue. Several Bollywood celebrities, including Amitabh Bachchan, earlier raised their concerns about the deepfake videos. They also highlighted the need for new legal and regulatory measures to combat deepfake content.
On November 24, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar addressed this issue and said that the central government will assist citizens in filing FIRs against social media firms for violations of IT rules. The minister made this statement after a meeting with social media platforms on the issue of deepfakes. Rajeev Chandrasekhar also said that there is zero tolerance for violations of IT rules and added that the government will appoint a special officer to look into the issues of deepfake videos.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said that the use of artificial intelligence for making ‘deepfake‘ is problematic. On November 17, PM Modi also urged the media to raise awareness among the public about this issue. Deepfake technology is a method of manipulating images and videos using AI algorithms. It is also considered the biggest concern amid the growth of artificial intelligence.
