Bill Gates, the billionaire co-founder of Microsoft, recently shared his thoughts about the future of artificial intelligence (AI) in the year 2024. Bill Gates describes AI as a “supercharger” for innovation and also highlights the potential of AI in healthcare. The billionaire took to his official blog, GatesNotes, to share his thoughts about AI.

“Artificial intelligence is about to accelerate the rate of new discoveries at a pace we’ve never seen before,” wrote Bill Gates on his blog. He added that 2023 marked the first time he used AI for work and pointed out that reliance on AI for day-to-day jobs is changing the world. “We now have a better sense of what types of jobs AI will be able to do by itself and which ones it will serve as a copilot for,” said Bill Gates. The co-founder of Microsoft said that artificial intelligence can be used to improve access to education and mental health and added that the speed of innovation has never been faster.

Bill Gates predicted that the general population in high-income countries like the United States is between 18 to 24 months away from wide use of AI technology. Meanwhile, African nations are expected to see similar levels of adoption of AI in around three years. Bill Gates said in his blog post that AI can make the world a more equitable place, and it can reduce the lag time between when the rich world gets an innovation and when the poor world does.

Earlier in March, Bill Gates said that AI is as revolutionary as mobile phones and the Internet. On that occasion, he also said that in the next five to 10 years, AI-driven software will deliver on the promise of revolutionizing the way people teach and learn.
