Bangladesh announced a suspension from Meta platforms in July in response to the unrest sprawled out in the country on account of quota reforms.

According to the reports, Bangladesh blocked access to several social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and WhatsApp on Friday. The use of these platforms is banned and no citizen can log into any accounts living across the nation.

Bangladesh announced a suspension from  Meta platforms in July in response to the unrest sprawled out in the country on account of quota reforms. At the beginning of August, the other popular platforms were also banned completely in the country. It was said that the recent shutdown targets the mobile data connection as the access was cut off through network unavailability during midnight.

Similarly In July, when it was partially restricted as the mobile bandwidth was weak on the 17th followed by a complete shutdown on the 18th of July. It went till July 28 and was restored after that.

The recent ban has been reportedly imposed as a result of the violent activities and protests by several adults and students in  Bangladesh. commotions and student protests are continuing and many have tweeted as the streets witness widespread chaos.


The previous month, at least hundreds of people were murdered in violent clashes against the authorities seeking the return of a 30 per cent quota in the government employment system for those who combat the freedom of lineage in Bangladesh from Pakistan.

The Youth dominated the protests and expressed their need for the return of a 30% quota in government employment at all levels demanding immediate actions on the matter. The ban on various social media is considered a result of the violent protests and clashes befalling in Bangladesh by several Youth Wing and students groups.
